Notes

Total Minimum Credits for the Northern Virginia Community College A.A. Degree in Liberal Arts is 60 to 65.

For the Biology B.A. program at Mason, students must earn a minimum GPA of 2.5 in required Biology courses; a minimum GPA of 2.0 in all major course work and a minimum of 2.9 in non-Biology major requirements.

The program requires 6 hours of social sciences chosen from ADJ, ANTH, GEOG (not 102 or 309), GOVT, HIST (not 100 or 125), LING, PSYC, or SOCI. Shown here are two history courses. One may be substituted for any from those listed above.

For the math requirement, you can take BIOL 312, Biostatistics. No equivalent at NVCC. STAT 250 is no longer being accepted for this major.

Students majoring in biology are required to complete 16 credits in the major at the 300 and 400 levels at Mason in addition to meeting the university residency requirement of at least 30 credits at Mason.

Please Note: Not all NVCC Humanities/Fine Arts electives qualify as General Education Elective requirements (i.e. ENG 211-212, Creative Writing I&II and ART 121-122, Drawing I&II) for NVCC.

While other VCCS courses may also qualify for some of the categories above, we have included those that are most often available. We strongly recommend that you work closely with your VCCS Counselor or Faculty Advisor to assure the most appropriate choices for your major.
