Notes

In addition to NVCC's A.S. degree in computer science, students are encouraged to take NVCC's MTH 277, 285 and 286 to meet additional requirements in the B.S. in computer science.

For the social science elective, select from NVCC's ECO 201,202,GEO 210,PLS 135, 211, 212,PSY 201 and 202,216,231 and 232,SOC 200,201 and 202.

Computer Science majors have an option for undergraduate certificates in Applied Statistics and Operations Research and Engineering offered by The Volgenau School of Information Technology and Engineering at Mason.

A new B.S. degree in Applied Computer Science (BS ACS) is an innovative approach to the integration of computer science with disciplines where knowledge of computation is becoming increasingly important. The curriculum covers the foundations of computer science along with a chosen concentration, providing a substantial cross-disciplinary background. The current concentrations are biology, geography, and computer game design.

In order for the transfer student to be competitive for this program, a GPA of 2.75 is required and any two of the following courses: CSC 201,202,MTH 173,174 or MTH 286.

Please Note: Not all NVCC Humanities/Fine Arts electives qualify as General Education Elective requirements (i.e. ENG 211-212, Creative Writing I&II and ART 121-122, Drawing I&II) for NVCC.

While other VCCS courses may also qualify for some of the categories above, we have included those that are most often available. We strongly recommend that you work closely with your VCCS Counselor or Faculty Advisor to assure the most appropriate choices for your major.
