General Education Requirements

The mission of George Mason University's General Education Program is to educate, liberate and broaden the mind and to instill a lifelong love of learning. The program is divided into three areas: 1) Foundation requirements - written communication, oral communication, information technology and quantitative reasoning; 2) Core requirements - literature, fine arts, western civilization, social & behavioral science, global understanding and natural science; and 3) a Synthesis requirement.  Not all requirements are completed in the first two years of the degree program.

Please Note: Not all NVCC Humanities/Fine Arts electives qualify as General Education Elective requirements (i.e. ENG 211-212, Creative Writing I&II and ART 121-122, Drawing I&II) for NVCC.
