College of Science
The College of Science (COS) believes in blending traditional science education with innovative programs and initiatives. As an R1 university—the highest designation for research universities—we help students conduct broad, interdisciplinary studies and specialized research with cutting-edge classroom technology and state-of-the-art laboratories. COS partners with specialty facilities in Northern Virginia to give students more opportunities to learn and conduct research, which, along with our connections to government agencies and industry partners, equips students with hands-on experience that leads to meaningful careers.
George Mason plays a leading role in addressing critical sustainability challenges through its research, academic mission, and physical footprint. We celebrate Earth Month all year long through our dedication to solving big problems in collaboration with the local, regional, and international community to foster healthy people, a healthy planet, a healthy economy, and a healthy society. From the canopies of the trees in our accredited arboretum to the stormwater running into Mason Pond, Mason experts are conducting research that will have an impact globally.
