ACCESS Application Requirements

How to Apply

Students interested in the ACCESS program may apply directly to George Mason University for freshman undergraduate admission and select your desired major. When reviewing your application, the Mason Admissions Office will make a determination as to whether you are qualified for ACCESS.

You can apply online on our Apply Now page.

Application Requirements

  • Online application form and application fee
  • A competitive high school transcript or secondary school leaving certificate. Official, original documents must be sent.
  • A competitive SAT score**
  • An official IELTS score of 5.5 or higher; an official TOEFL score of 68 or higher; a good score on the Mason English Language Institute (ELI) ACCUPLACER assessment test. All test scores must be sent directly from the testing agency.
  • If currently enrolled in Mason ELI, you also need positive recommendations from your ELI faculty (e.g. completed homework, time management, group/class interaction, language proficiency, academic readiness, etc.)

** A competitive SAT score is required for all freshmen applicants. However, for ACCESS, Mason Admissions may allow this requirement to be met with an overall high school grade point average equivalent to a 3.50 (B+) or higher. This decision is made by Mason Admissions during the review of all application materials.

Provisional Admission

Once you are admitted to the ACCESS program, you are provisionally admitted to your desired Bachelor’s degree program. After successful completion of the ACCESS year, you can move directly into your regular degree studies. You will not need to apply again or do anything further in order to secure your space at Mason.
