Evaluation of Transfer Credit

The Office of Admissions completes course-by-course transfer credit evaluations for new transfer students approximately 6 weeks after admitted students confirm their enrollment. All transfer students are responsible for providing their final transcript to the Office of Admissions. The University reserves the right to revise a transfer credit evaluation at any time.

  • Transfer Credit Search Engine
Use this database to review previously evaluated transfer courses to Mason. Please note that this database is dynamic; we are constantly updating course equivalency data. While this data is as accurate and current as possible, the University retains the right to re-inspect any evaluation for which new information comes to light during a student's first semester of enrollment at Mason.
  • Transfer Credit Inquiry Form may be used if you have NOT received a transfer credit evaluation or if you are missing credit for particular courses on your evaluation. Please return the completed form directly to the Office of Admissions.
  • If you have received a transfer credit evaluation and transfer credit was denied for particular courses, complete the Transfer Credit Re-Evaluation Appeal form. Submit completed forms to the Mason academic department that offers the coursework from which you wish to receive credit. Re-evaluation of transfer credit based upon an approved appeal will take six weeks from the date of receipt. Revised credit evaluations will be available via Patriot Web.

  • Course Substitution/Waiver Form may be used for Mason and transfer courses for which a direct equivalency has been denied. The content of two courses is not equal, but the substituting course may be used to meet the requirement.
  • Transfer credit is granted only from regionally accredited colleges and universities. Mason is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). A full description of transfer credit policy is available in the current University Catalog.
  • Courses must be college level. Only courses with grades of C (2.00) or better transfer.
  • Transfer credit is not awarded for English (ENGL) composition coursework from non-US institutions.
  • Military Credit
  • Developmental course work, including college algebra, does not transfer.
  • Credit from institutions which operate on a quarter system calendar are transferred by multiplying the quarter credit hours by two thirds.
