For your convenience, George Mason University provides a list of hotels close to the Fairfax campus, some of which offer special rates for prospective students, Mason families, and visitors to the university. Weekend Events

Don't wait until Sunday! Visit campus a few days early and make a weekend out of it!

This year, Mason is hosting Family Weekend, Alumni Weekend, and the Mason Fall Premiere all in the same three days! It will be the most exciting weekend at Mason, by far! We encourage your family to join us for some of the other COMPLIMENTARY events hosted during this university-wide celebration.

  • Mason Madness – Friday, October 14th – 8:00 pm – EagleBank Arena (formerly The Patriot Center arena)
    The 2016-2017 George Mason basketball season will tip off Friday, October 14, at Mason Maddness 2016! This year's edition of Mason Madness will begin at 8:00 pm in EagleBank Arena. Doors open at 7:30pm and fans are encouraged to arrive early to ensure they receive the best seating in the arena. Admission is free for all fans! Sponsored by Mason Athletics
  • REMIX: Mason Alumni Exhibit - Thursday, October 13th - Sunday, October 16th - Fairfax, Arlington, and Science and Technology Campuses
    The School of Art Alumni Exhibition is an inaugural exhibition to be featured in multiple George Mason University galleries at our Arlington, Science and Technology (Prince William County) and Fairfax campuses. We welcome back our alumni from past classes and invite the public to view the works on display by Mason Alumni.
  • An Evening Under the Starts - Friday, October 14th - 8:00pm - 9:30pm - Research Hall Observatory
    Visit the College of Science's on-campus observatory for an introductory tour and observing of the night sky through our 0.8-meter diameter telescope (weather permitting). Depending upon conditions, we will observe available planets, stars, galaxies, and more!
  • Building Mason Nation: senior Leadership Panel - Saturday, October 15th - 1:30pm - 3:00 pm - Harris Theater
    Alumni, students, family, and friends are invited to join senior university leaders for an engaging discussion about our thriving Mason Nation community and our role in its evolution. This interactive panel presentation will be moderated by Brian Jones '06, president of the Mason Alumni Association, with opening remarks by University President Angel Cabrera. Panelists will include Janet Bingham, VP for Advancement and Alumni Relations and President of the GMU Foundatio; Rose Pascarell, VP for University Life; Julian Williams, VP of Compliance, Diversity and Ethics; and Brad Edwards, Athletics Director. Sponsored by the Office of Alumni Relations.
  • School of Music Faculty Showcase - Sunday, October 16th - 3:00 pm - Harris Theater
    Annual showcase recital of performances by Mason's stellar School of Music faculty including vocal, instrumental, and piano artists. Sponsored by the School of Music.
  • Faculty Spotlight: Inside the Real Criminal Minds - Saturday, October 15th, 12:45 - 1:45 pm - Johnson Center, Cinema
    Ever wonder what goes on inside the real criminal minds? Come listen to Dr. Mary Ellen O'Toole, Director of the Forensic Science program at Mason, share her experience as one of the FBI's most senior and accomplished profilers. During her career, she worked on many high-profile cases, including the Elizabeth Smart abduction, the Unabomber case, the Green River Killer, and the Natalee Holloway investigation. Sponsored by Family Weekend and the College of Science.
  • Family Weekend Unplugged - Saturday, October 15th - 8:00pm - Johnson Center Bistro
    Join us for an evening where student musical artists will be featured and refreshments will be served. Sponsored by Family Weekend.

Then of course, we will see you back on campus for our Mason Fall Premiere Open House on Sunday, October 16th at 10:00 am. Doors will open at the EagleBank Arena at 9:00 am.
